Public Safety Fair Our
Public Safety Fair will be held on May 10th, 2008 from 10 am-2 pm at Wal-Mart Super Center, in La Junta. Last year,
we had a total of 225 participants. Nine different stations were made available for people to learn about
different safety issues concerning house fires, bicycles, hunting, trains, personal health, etc. We were
able to inspect 14 car seats, and gave out 7. As a community, we hope we can
work together to make this a memorable event for individuals of all ages to enjoy and to look forward to each year!
This year, we have even more stations to offer. We look forward to seeing you there!
K'Nex Building Trust Competition during the Arkansas Valley
Fair
The Tri-County Family Care Center will sponsoring their 10th annual
“Building Trust” contest with K’NEX kits in the Exposition building, on Sunday, August 17th from 12:30 pm
- 2:30 pm, during the Arkansas Valley Fair. Kits will be provided free of charge for the participants to
keep. This activity encourages parents or other adult sponsors to interact and be involved with youth.
Each team will include one child and one parent or adult sponsor. The concept of the activity
is to illustrate good communication skills and to build trust between the team members. There will be a
Junior Division (ages 5-8); an Intermediate Division (ages 9-12); and a Senior Division (ages 13-17). Each
age category will be given a certain amount of time to build the kit. The adult will instruct the child
on how to build that particular kit, without the child seeing the picture or reading the instructions. Each
team will be judged according to how well they communicate and how much of the kit is completed during the time allowed.
